Donya Bassami

Donya is a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor who earned her Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Frostburg State University and her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). Donya has provided counseling services in both school and community settings, working primarily with children and adolescents between the ages of 8 and 14. Her clinical experience includes supporting children with anxiety, phobias, grief, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Donya takes a collaborative and strength-based approach to therapy, helping clients and families identify emotional patterns, develop coping strategies, and build self-awareness. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), play-based interventions, and psychoeducation, she supports children in understanding the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. She works to create a warm and engaging environment where clients and families can explore challenges, strengthen communication, and practice new skills that promote lasting growth.

Donya values culturally responsive and family-centered care. She believes that meaningful progress happens when caregivers, educators, and mental health professionals work together toward shared goals. Fluent in English and Farsi, Donya is passionate about making therapy accessible and supportive for individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
